Manor Solomon continued his impressive form as he came off the bench to secure a 1-1 draw for Fulham against Wolves in Friday’s Premier League match. Marco Silva’s team found themselves trailing after Pablo Sarabia scored his first goal in five appearances for Wolves since joining from Paris Saint-Germain in January. However, Solomon, the Israeli international, equalized after half-time, extending Fulham’s unbeaten streak in the league to four matches. After a quiet start following his loan move from Shakhtar Donetsk last year, the 23-year-old has now netted three goals in his last three appearances. Notably, Solomon is the first Israeli player to score in three consecutive Premier League matches since Liverpool’s Ronny Rosenthal in 1992.
Initially viewed as relegation candidates at the beginning of the season, Fulham has emerged as one of the biggest surprises, currently sitting in sixth place and firmly in contention for a Europa League qualification. In contrast, Wolves, who were at the bottom of the table before the World Cup break, have managed to climb out of the relegation zone and now sit in 15th place, four points clear of the bottom three.
The match began scrappily, but Wolves took the lead in the 23rd minute with their first serious chance. Raul Jimenez delivered a deft header to Sarabia, who controlled the ball with his left foot and finished clinically into the far corner from eight yards with his right foot. Fulham attempted to respond, with Bobby De Cordova-Reid’s cross finding Carlos Vinicius, whose header forced Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa to make his first save of the night. Ruben Neves had a chance to double Wolves’ lead but headed wide from Matheus Nunes’ cross. Just before half-time, Andreas Pereira nearly equalized with a spectacular 30-yard free-kick that Sa tipped over the bar. Jimenez also came close, nodding just wide from Sarabia’s cross, while Wolves forward Matheus Cunha was stretchered off after lengthy treatment following a seemingly innocuous challenge.
Solomon, who had previously come off the bench to score the winning goal against Brighton, resumed his role as a super-sub in this match. He equalized in the 64th minute with a superb curling shot that found the far corner from the edge of the area. As Fulham pushed for a winner, a penalty appeal was turned down after a VAR check when Joao Palhinha went down under an apparent push from Mario Lemina. In the dying moments of the match, Sa preserved the draw for Wolves by diving to his right to deny Vinicius’s towering header.
