The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State raised an alarm on Saturday over ongoing attempts by armed agents to assassinate Hon. Uju Kingsley Chima, the House of Representatives member for the Ohaji‑Egbema, Oguta, and Oru West federal constituency. Chima is also the PDP candidate for that constituency in today’s elections.
In a statement issued by Collins Opurozor, the PDP’s Publicity Secretary in Imo State, it was revealed that Chima had narrowly escaped assassination twice, including a recent attempt on Friday night. Opurozor said, “Our party alerts Nigerians that in the last three days, our candidate has escaped by a whisker two very brutal onslaughts targeted at his life.”
He recounted an incident three days earlier when armed individuals, described as state‑sanctioned terrorists, stormed a campaign event at Umuapu in Ohaji‑Egbema. The attack caused chaos and endangered not only Chima but also other party members.
