Group criticizes Taraba senator for attending APC meeting during Sunday worship hours

The All Progressive Concern Actors, APCA, operating under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has criticized Senator David Jimkuta for attending a party consultative meeting on a Sunday morning coinciding with Christian worship hours.

Jimkuta, who represents Taraba South and is the highest ranking APC elected official from the state, led a delegation of party officials to a North-East APC stakeholders meeting held in Gombe by 11:00 am on Sunday, June 15, 2025.

During a press briefing in Jalingo on Monday, APCA coordinator, Damshark Mark Adamu and secretary Ismaila Dauda, condemned the timing of the meeting and faulted Jimkuta for failing to advocate for a more inclusive schedule.

The group argued that scheduling such a significant political meeting during Sunday service hours showed insensitivity to the Christian population within the party and the region.

“Senator Jimkuta should be held responsible. As a Christian and a prominent leader in the party, he should have intervened and advised against holding the meeting during church hours.

“He has the influence to lead, and with that comes the responsibility to ensure the party respects the religious diversity of its members,” said Adamu

The group also referenced an earlier press briefing on Friday, in which an APC chieftain Daniel Musa criticized the North-East Zonal Coordinator and governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, for scheduling the meeting at a time many Christians would be in church.

The group noted that the issue was raised publicly, yet the meeting proceeded as planned.

“During his 2023 campaign, Senator Jimkuta openly identified as a Christian and sought support from the Christian community.

“This action now feels like a betrayal. He must apologize to the Christians in the zone for participating in an event that disrespected their faith,” Adamu stated.
