Kano Police Arrest 51 Suspects, Recover Dangerous Weapons and Illicit Drugs in Raid

Police crack down on thuggery in Kano, nab 51 suspects — Daily Nigerian

A major crackdown on crime has been undertaken by the Kano State Police Command in Nigeria, resulting in the arrest of 51 suspects and the recovery of dangerous weapons and illicit drugs. The operation, which spanned three days from Friday to Sunday, targeted notorious criminal hideouts across the metropolis, covering areas such as Kano Municipal, Dala, Gwale, and Tarauni Local Government Areas.

Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, revealed that the operation was part of a broader effort to eradicate thuggery and related criminal activities from the state. According to Abdullahi, the police command is resolute in its determination to tackle thuggery and its associated crimes head-on. The commissioner of police, Ibrahim Bakori, echoed this sentiment, warning that the use of weapons during traditional performances, such as “Kidan Gangi,” would not be tolerated.

The police have also expressed concern over the growing trend of brandishing weapons on social media platforms like TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram. Commissioner Bakori cautioned that displaying dangerous weapons on social media glorifies criminality and lures teenagers into gang-related activities. He vowed that anyone caught engaging in such behavior would be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.

In addition to targeting criminals, the police have also warned parents, guardians, and blacksmiths who aid or conceal the possession of weapons to desist from doing so, emphasizing that they would be held accountable under the law. The commissioner urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious behavior, promising to intensify efforts to maintain peace and security in the state. To facilitate this, the police have provided emergency hotlines, including 08032600299, 08032600300, and 08032600301, for the public to report any concerns.

This crackdown on crime is a significant step towards ensuring the safety and security of Kano State residents. As the police continue to ramp up their efforts, it is crucial for the public to cooperate and report any suspicious activity to help maintain peace and order in the community. By working together, the police and the public can create a safer and more secure environment for everyone.
