New Bus Terminal in Abuja Aims to Eliminate One Chance Syndrome and Enhance Security

In a significant move to enhance transportation and security in Abuja, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced the construction of the Mabushi Bus and Taxi Terminal. This initiative aims to eliminate the “one chance” syndrome, a phenomenon where commuters are vulnerable to attacks by unknown drivers. The terminal is expected to reduce the number of vehicles on the road, thereby Enhancing security in the capital city.

During the commissioning of the newly constructed Mabushi bus terminal, Wike revealed that three additional bus and taxi terminals would be constructed in Gwagwalada, Bwari, and Kuje by 2025. He emphasized the importance of this project, stating, “We are trying to eliminate the `one chance’ syndrome where commuters are vulnerable to attacks by unknown drivers.” The Minister’s efforts to improve transportation and security in Abuja have been commended by his counterpart, the Minister of Transportation, Said Alkali, who described the project as a “landmark achievement.”

Alkali noted that the terminals, when fully functional, would not only enhance economic activities but also boost transportation across the capital city. He further stated that the project would facilitate the realization of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which prioritizes transportation. The Minister urged stakeholders in the transport sector to maximize the potential of the terminal, which would encourage the government to do more for the welfare of the people.

In a broader effort to improve transportation across Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu has approved the construction of six bus terminals, one in each of the geopolitical zones. These terminals will be located in Abeokuta, Onitsha, Warri, Lokoja, Gombe, and Kano. The FCT Transportation Mandate Secretary, Chinedum Elechi, praised the Minister for the initiative, highlighting that the bus and taxi terminal is the “first of its kind” in the FCT.

When fully operational, the terminal will operate 24 hours a day, catering to both intercity and intracity transportation needs. The facility boasts state-of-the-art amenities and has been equipped with 45 closed-circuit television cameras to ensure the security of commuters. This significant investment in transportation infrastructure is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of Abuja’s residents and commuters, providing a safer and more efficient travel experience.
