On Saturday, some elderly voters in Ekiti State joined the queues at various polling units, motivated by a desire to contribute to the betterment of the country during the Presidential and National Assembly elections. Among these voters were two female septuagenarians who expressed optimism for a brighter future for Nigeria. Mrs. Felicia Oladunjoye, a 75-year-old woman who voted at the Iyin II Alayanrun compound in Iyin Ekiti, shared her hopes for the nation. She remarked, “It took about three minutes to be captured and to vote. I voted for Nigeria to be better. I voted for the emergence of a kind-hearted leader.”
Similarly, 74-year-old Mrs. Maryann Ogundele, who cast her vote at Iyin 1, Unit 003, Registration Area 010, also praised the peaceful conduct of the election at her polling unit. She stated, “I participated in this election for the betterment of the country. I expect that the election will bear good fruit for the country. Everything has been peaceful.”
In another polling unit, Dr. Eniola Ajayi, the Nigerian Ambassador to the Netherlands, commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for implementing the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS). She emphasized the importance of a transparent collation of results. “The election was peaceful, orderly, and well-organised,” Dr. Ajayi noted after voting in Ward A, Unit 18, Iyin Ekiti. “The BVAS worked perfectly for me. It took me less than two minutes and maybe another minute to vote. I urge INEC, as an unbiased entity, to ensure proper collation and adherence to all processes.”
