High expectations abound in Port Harcourt and other areas of Rivers State as voters and residents await the results of the Presidential and National Assembly elections. However, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not yet uploaded results from the various polling units across the 23 local government areas of the state. As late as 7 to 8 PM on Saturday, elections were still ongoing in some polling units due to various issues.
One significant problem was the malfunction of the Bi-modal Voter Accreditation machines in several locations, including Governor Nyesom Wike’s Ward 9, Unit 7 in Rumuiprikon, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. Additionally, heavy rain and lightning during the voting hours forced many voters to seek shelter, causing delays as they returned to their polling units. By 12 PM on Sunday, a full day after the election, INEC had still not uploaded any results.
Our correspondent, who has been at the INEC office along Aba Road in Port Harcourt since 9 AM, reported that as of 11 AM, no results had arrived from any local government areas. Journalists and election observers have been waiting for hours at the state collation center for the 2023 election results. Meanwhile, voters and party supporters are anxiously anticipating the outcomes for their candidates, as conflicting results continue to circulate.
