Nigeria Launches Enugu Air Commercial Airline with Initial Routes to Abuja and Lagos

Nigeria is set to witness a significant milestone in its aviation sector as the Enugu State government-owned commercial airline, Enugu Air, prepares for its official launch. Festus Keyamo, the country’s minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, will lead the launch ceremony, scheduled to take place on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport. This development marks a major step forward in the state’s efforts to establish itself as a major aviation hub in Nigeria.

The launch of Enugu Air is a culmination of the state government’s vision to transform regional air travel and boost economic growth. The airline will commence operations with a fleet of three Embraer jets, comprising the E170 and E190 series, which have been chosen for their exceptional performance, passenger comfort, and suitability for regional routes. According to Dr. Obi Ozor, the Commissioner for Transportation in Enugu State, Enugu Air is poised to play a pivotal role in Governor Peter Mbah’s plans to position the state as a major player in Nigeria’s aviation industry.
