Plateau State Governor Promises Justice for Wedding Guests Killed by Mob

Attacks on Plateau communities genocide — Gov Mutfwang

A devastating incident in Nigeria’s Plateau State has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice, after a group of wedding guests were brutally attacked by a mob, resulting in the loss of 22 lives and leaving 11 others injured. The victims, who were traveling from Zaria in Kaduna State to attend a wedding ceremony in Quan Pa’an council, took a wrong turn and found themselves in Mangun District, where they were mistakenly identified as terrorists and attacked.

Governor Barr. Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has assured the families of the victims that his administration is committed to ensuring justice is served. In an interview with the BBC Haua Service, Mutfwang expressed his sympathies to the bereaved families and emphasized that his government is working closely with authorities in Kaduna State to develop measures that will be satisfactory to all parties involved. He acknowledged that conflicts driven by deep-seated hatred between different religious and ethnic groups are a longstanding issue that cannot be resolved overnight.

Mutfwang stressed that his government is taking concrete steps to address the killings, including sending a special delegation led by the Emir of Wase to console the Emir of Zaria, where the victims were from. The governor also reported that around 22 people are being held in connection with the attack, and those who were injured have returned home safely. Furthermore, his administration is in contact with the leaders of Zaria to explore ways to support the bereaved families and those who are still recovering from their injuries.

As the investigation into the attack continues, Governor Mutfwang’s assurance of justice for the victims’ families is a crucial step towards healing and reconciliation. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for tolerance, understanding, and cooperation among different communities to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future. The Plateau State government’s efforts to address the root causes of conflict and promote peace and stability in the region are crucial to preventing similar incidents and ensuring that justice is served for the victims and their families.
