'No genuine friend in music industry' - Ruger

Nigerian singer, Michael Adebayo Olayinka, popularly known as Ruger, has revealed that his passion for music started at an early age.

He disclosed that at the age of 9, he was sneaking out to parties to listen and dance to Afrobeats.

Ruger featured in a recent episode of the Afrobeats Intelligence podcast hosted by Joey Akan.

“I was sneaking out to go to parties to listen to Afrobeats and Dancehal. I was no up to 10 years old then but knew how to dance. So I would just go to parties and shake my body,” he said.

Ruger Rose to fame with the release of his song ‘Bounce’, which led him to sign a recording deal with Jonzing World, in 2021. That same year, he released his debut EP, ‘Pandemic’, which cemented his stardom.

The singer left Jonzing World in 2024 to start his own imprint, called Blown Boy Entertainment, following a fallout with his record label boss D’Prince.
