The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) achieved a significant victory in the National Assembly elections held on Saturday, winning all contested seats. The results, which were released by the State Office of the Independent National Electoral Commission on Sunday, highlighted several key races.
In the Osun East Senatorial District, incumbent lawmaker Francis Fadahunsi was reelected, securing 127,877 votes. He defeated his opponent from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Ajibola Famurewa, who received 95,670 votes. In the Osun Central Senatorial District, Senate spokesperson Ajibola Basiru of the APC garnered 117,609 votes but lost to Olubiyi Fadeyi of the PDP, who was elected with 134,229 votes. Meanwhile, in the Osun West Senatorial District, Mr. Lere Oyewumi of the PDP was also declared the winner, polling 138,476 votes against Amidu Tadese of the APC, who received 104,459 votes.
The elections continued with notable victories in the Federal Constituencies. In the Boluwaduro/Ifedayo/Ila Federal Constituency, Clement Akanni of the PDP was elected with 26,242 votes, defeating APC’s Adebisi Obawale, who received 16,725 votes. Olusoji Adetunji of the PDP also won the Odo Otin/Ifelodun/Boripe Federal Constituency with 41,389 votes, overcoming Moshood Oluawo of the APC, who garnered 35,911 votes. In the Ayedaade/Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency, Lanre Omoleye of the PDP secured 39,124 votes, defeating the incumbent, Taiwo Oluga of the APC, who received 37,832 votes.
In the Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency, incumbent Bamidele Salam of the PDP received 64,236 votes, defeating Atanda Bello of the APC, who polled 35,444 votes. Sanya Ominrin of the PDP won the Atakumosa East/Atakumosa West/Ilesa East/Ilesa West Federal Constituency with 41,437 votes, defeating the incumbent Lawrence Ayeni. Additionally, Lukman Alani of the PDP claimed victory in the Ayedire/Iwo/Ola-Oluwa Federal Constituency, polling 35,678 votes against the APC’s Yinusa Amobi, who received 31,255 votes.
Mr. Wole Oke of the PDP, the current lawmaker for the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, was reelected with 31,907 votes, defeating his closest rival, Mr. Seun Odofin of the APC, who garnered 18,412 votes. Another incumbent, Taofeek Ajilesoro of the PDP, retained his seat in the Ife Central/Ife North/Ife South/Ife East Federal Constituency with 53,078 votes, narrowly defeating Kayode Adereti of the APC, who received 51,051 votes. Lastly, in the Irepodun/Olorunda/Osogbo/Orolu Federal Constituency, Morufu Adebayo of the PDP emerged victorious with 71,677 votes, while Abosede Kasumu of the APC came in second with 58,992 votes.
