APC Chairman Vows to Retake Plateau Governorship in 2027
In a daring declaration, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, the new National Chairman of Nigeria’s All Progressives Congress (APC), has pledged that his party will reclaim the governorship of Plateau State in the 2027 elections.
Yilwatda, who himself ran for governor in 2023 but lost to incumbent Governor Caleb Mutfwang, made this assurance while entertaining a visit from former Plateau governor and current Senator representing Plateau South, Simon Bako Lalong.
Under Yilwatda’s leadership, APC will strategize and refocus to win the 2027 gubernatorial contest, he asserted. Citing President Bola Tinubu’s positive developments and reforms, Yilwatda insisted that Plateau residents now yearn for similar changes in their state. With 22 APC members in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Yilwatda expressed confidence that the party’s transformative message would reach the grassroots, galvanizing voters to replace the current PDP administration.
The APC chairman also rejoiced over top PDP members joining their party, seeing this as a sign of voter discontent with the ruling party. In response, Senator Lalong praised the NEC’s strategic appointment of Yilwatda, highlighting his experience as a former INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner. Lalong backed Yilwatda’s optimism, emphasizing that APC was determined to retake Plateau in 2027.
The State Assembly members’ open endorsement of President Tinubu and their warning to opposition parties against campaigning in the state further bolstered Yilwatda’s assertion. As Nigerians look ahead to the 2027 general elections, the political climate in Plateau State promises to heat up, with APC confidently stating its intention to reclaim the governorship.
