“Former APC Chieftain: ADC Will Ensure Presidential Accountability

2027: President elected on ADC platform will be accountable - Salihu Lukman

Headline: Former APC Chieftain Lukman Bashes Party, Hails Opposition ADC’s Accountability Pledge

A prominent political figure in Nigeria, Salihu Lukman, a former National Vice Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has slammed his former party, stating that it has declined and is now worse than the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In an interview with Channels Television’s ‘Sunrise Daily’, Lukman expressed his confidence in the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) to deliver accountable leadership if victorious in the 2027 presidential election.

Lukman, who served as the APC’s North-West National Vice Chairman, stated that the ADC has learnt from the mistakes of the APC and is poised to do better. He described the ADC as “a platform for struggle”, formed with the objective of producing an accountable president for Nigeria’s people. He believes that this accountability will be achieved by organizing the party in a way that ensures all appointees, if the ADC produces the next president, remain accountable to the party and uphold their electoral promises.

“We often assume that leaders are rational and will naturally do the right thing,” Lukman said. “But our experience has shown that this is not always the case. We need to engage our leaders continually to ensure they deliver on their promises.”

Lukman’s statement comes amidst growing concerns about leadership accountability in Nigeria, a country known for its high levels of corruption and political malfeasance. His support for the ADC’s accountability pledge could potentially sway public opinion, given his previous high standing within the APC.

The ADC, comprising various opposition parties, is positioning itself as a credible alternative to the APC and PDP. Lukman’s endorsement may signal a significant shift in Nigerian politics as the country gears up for the next presidential election in 2027. However, it remains to be seen how the APC and other parties will respond to these developments.
