Police Ministry, Academy Dismiss PSC’s Admission Disclaimer

Nigeria’s Police Academy and Ministry Rebuff Police Service Commission’s Disclaimer

In a turn of events, Nigeria’s Ministry of Police Affairs and the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, have refuted a disclaimer issued by the Police Service Commission (PSC). The disclaimer, issued on July 31, 2025, aimed to invalidate an advertisement for the 12th Regular Course Degree Programmes of the Nigeria Police Force.

The PSC, through its Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, earlier disowned the advert, which ran from July 28 to September 8, 2025. The PSC argued that the advert breached procedure and attempted to undermine its constitutional mandate, claiming sole authority to appoint persons into the Nigeria Police Force, a claim supported by both the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.

However, Bolaji Kazeem, the Director of Information and Public Relations of the Ministry of Police Affairs, released a statement on Friday clarifying that the application process remains valid and ongoing. The statement, issued on behalf of the Police Academy, maintained that the admission process is in line with guidelines set by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Federal Ministry of Police Affairs. It also underscored that the PSC has no constitutional role in university admissions.

“The Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, and the Federal Ministry of Police Affairs wish to draw the attention of the public to a misleading and inaccurate disclaimer issued by the Police Service Commission on 31st July 2025. The disclaimer is legally baseless and misleading,” the statement read.

The ministry urged interested applicants and the general public to disregard the PSC’s disclaimer, reassuring them that the online application portal remains open as initially announced.

This development highlights the ongoing tensions between the Police Service Commission and the Nigeria Police Academy regarding the appointment and admission processes within the Nigeria Police Force. As the academia and bureaucracy navigate this complex issue, applicants are advised to stay informed and follow official updates from the Nigeria Police Academy and the Ministry of Police Affairs.
