The Labour Party achieved a significant victory in all National Assembly elections in Abia Central. Darlington Nwokocha emerged as the senatorial candidate, while Obi Aguocha and Ginger Onwusibe won their respective seats in the House of Representatives for the Ikwuano/Umuahia and Isiala Ngwa North and South federal constituencies. Nwokocha secured 92,116 votes, defeating former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Organising Secretary, Rtd Col Austin Akobundu, who garnered 41,477 votes, as well as the incumbent Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Representative, Sam Onuigbo, who received 7,997 votes.

In the House of Representatives, Aguocha of the Labour Party triumphed over Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, the Speaker of the House of Assembly from the PDP, for the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency. Similarly, Onwusibe of the Labour Party defeated former Chief of Staff and human rights lawyer, Prof. Anthony C. B. Agbazuere, also from the PDP. This outcome signifies a decisive blow to the PDP in Abia Central.

After being announced as the winner of the senatorial seat by the Returning Officer, Prof. Udo Herbert, Hon. Darlington Nwokocha addressed the press on Monday afternoon. He dedicated his victory to God and expressed gratitude to the people for their overwhelming support. “My victory shows that God is God and it is the will of the people,” he stated.
