The Labour Party’s Ekene Abubukar has been declared the winner of the House of Representatives seat for the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency in Kaduna State. With this victory, Ekene has unseated the incumbent representative, Yakubu Barde, also known as “No Shaking,” from the Peoples Democratic Party. The Returning Officer, Prof. Bashir Abubukar, announced that Ekene received 57,725 votes, defeating the incumbent PDP candidate, who garnered 47,937 votes. The All Progressives Congress candidate, Caino Cafra, finished a distant third with 19,293 votes.

In a statement following the announcement, Ekene attributed his electoral success to divine intervention, declaring, “the voice of the people has prevailed, and I attribute this victory to God who gives power.” He emphasized that his administration will prioritize improving the livelihoods of the citizens, affirming his commitment to remain a servant of the people.

Ekene expressed gratitude for the collective effort that led to his victory, stating, “It’s a victory for all; we have struggled for it—me, you, and everyone. For sure, the people have spoken, and they want to see our constituency liberated.” He also thanked God for the opportunity to serve in the green chamber and called on other candidates to join him in this endeavor, saying, “I believe it’s victory for all. Let’s join hands together to liberate the constituency.”
