Peter Obi, the Labour Party candidate in Saturday’s presidential election, has been declared the winner in Edo State. According to Prof. Nyaudoh Ndaeyo, the state collation officer and Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo in Akwa Ibom, Obi received a total of 331,163 votes to secure victory in the state. Bola Tinubu, the candidate from the All Progressive Congress (APC), finished in second place with 144,471 votes. Atiku Abubakar, representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), garnered 89,585 votes, while Rabiu Kwakwanso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) received 2,743 votes. The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) managed to secure 4,082 votes.
The election was marked by a notable level of voter apathy, with only 603,894 voters accredited out of 2,501,081 registered for the exercise. A total of 581,266 valid votes were cast, while 19,129 votes were rejected, resulting in 600,395 votes cast overall. The Labour Party achieved victories in 12 Local Government Areas, including Igueben, Esan Central, Esan North-East, Egor, Esan South-East, Esan West, Uhunmwonde, Orhionmwon, Ovia South-West, Oredo, Ikpoba-Okha, and Ovia North-East. In contrast, the APC won in six Local Government Areas: Owan West, Owan East, Akoko-Edo, Etsako Central, Etsako West, and Etsako East.
At the conclusion of the collation process, agents from the Labour Party, Peoples Democratic Party, and All Progressive Congress, among the 18 participating political parties, signed the collated results.
