The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has rolled out an upgraded digital platform to streamline identity enrollment for Nigerians living abroad, marking a significant step in modernizing service delivery for the diaspora community. Announced via a statement by spokesperson Kayode Adegoke on Monday, the enhanced Diaspora National Identity Number (NIN) portal aims to simplify registration processes while bolstering security and efficiency for overseas applicants. The NIN, a unique identifier tied to critical services like banking and immigration, is mandatory for Nigerians both at home and abroad.
According to the agency, the overhaul addresses past technical hurdles, ensuring a more robust and user-friendly system. “This upgrade provides a secure, seamless pathway for diaspora members to complete their NIN enrollment,” the commission stated, emphasizing streamlined processes to reduce delays. Front-End Partners (FEPs)—third-party agencies authorized to assist with registrations—have undergone training to navigate the upgraded platform. These partners are now required to activate new licenses within 48 hours to continue offering services. Nigerians abroad are advised to connect only with compliant FEPs to avoid disruptions.
Acknowledging potential challenges during the transition, NIMC apologized for inconveniences and established a dedicated support team to resolve enrollment issues. Applicants facing difficulties were urged to contact the commission directly. Domestically, NIMC reiterated that enrollment centers remain operational nationwide, with citizens encouraged to visit its official website (www.nimc.gov.ng) to locate nearby facilities.
The commission also highlighted the NIMC NINAuth mobile app, available on iOS and Android, which allows users to verify their identity, control data access, and authenticate services remotely. This dual focus on digital tools—both for enrollment and post-registration management—aligns with Nigeria’s broader push to digitize civic infrastructure and safeguard citizen data.
