Flutterwave Launches Referral Program for Cross-Border Remittance Product

Africa’s leading payments technology company, Flutterwave, has introduced a referral program for its cross-border remittance product, Send App. The program, dubbed “Share and Earn,” aims to reward both senders and receivers for using the platform, which has been enhanced through the integration of Swap. This integration enables users to effortlessly convert Nigerian Naira (NGN) to foreign currencies, facilitating smooth cross-border money transfers.

Remittances play a vital role in Africa’s economy, with the continent projected to reach a $1.5 trillion digital payment economy by 2030. Nigeria is a significant contributor to this growth, with remittances from the diaspora totaling over $21 billion in 2024. The “Share and Earn” program is designed to incentivize users to send money across borders and within Nigeria, with a focus on essential expenses such as healthcare, tuition, and summer vacations.

Nigerian customers can earn up to ₦5,000 for successfully referring domestic customers who complete their first transaction of at least ₦200,000. Similarly, inbound transfers from the US, UK, and Europe offer rewards for both parties, with senders receiving up to $20, £20, or €20 and the receiver in Nigeria getting up to ₦5,000. According to Flutterwave’s Founder & CEO, Olugbenga ‘GB’ Agboola, “Send App is more than just a remittance product… We’re empowering our users to be direct champions of economic opportunity.”

The launch of the “Share and Earn” program coincides with the preparation for back-to-school expenses, tuition payments, and holiday travel. Send App also announced its summer campaign in July, offering users a suite of tips, guides, and exclusive promos designed to help them make the most of their summer holiday. Senior Product Manager at Flutterwave, Temiloluwa Adesina, emphasized the importance of trusted word-of-mouth in their community, stating that the referral program is designed to reward loyal users and empower them to share their positive experiences with others.

The “Share and Earn” program is a strategic move by Flutterwave to expand its user base and increase transaction volumes. By incentivizing users to send money across borders and within Nigeria, the company aims to drive growth in Africa’s digital payment economy. With its enhanced Send App and referral program, Flutterwave is poised to maintain its position as a leader in the African payments technology space.
