Anambra State Governor Defends Aguneche Mba Security Outfit

Anambra State Governor Defends Local Security Outfit Amid Misconduct Concerns

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has come to the defense of the state’s local security outfit, Aguneche Mba, despite isolated cases of misconduct. Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time program, Soludo emphasized the group’s instrumental role in maintaining safety in the state.

Soludo acknowledged the recent brutalization of a female National Youth Service Corps member by operatives of Aguneche Mba, which has sparked concerns. However, he insisted that this incident should not overshadow the outfit’s overall contributions to the state’s security. According to the governor, the security group has undergone rigorous training and operates under a standard code of conduct, with procedures in place to address cases of misconduct.

“These individuals are working tirelessly to keep us safe and make Anambra a safer state,” Soludo said. “Most residents agree that they are making significant contributions to Anambra being one of the safest states in Nigeria.” He also emphasized that cases of excesses would not be tolerated, noting, “We must stand up and say that this behavior is unacceptable and not part of our code of conduct.”

Aguneche Mba has been working to maintain peace and order in Anambra State, which has been troubled by security concerns in the past. While incidents of misconduct are concerning, the governor’s defense of the outfit highlights the complexities of maintaining security in the region.

The incident involving the female National Youth Service Corps member has sparked debates about the need for accountability within local security outfits. While Soludo has acknowledged the incident, his defense of Aguneche Mba underscores the challenges of balancing security needs with accountability and human rights concerns.

As Anambra State continues to grapple with security challenges, the role of local security outfits like Aguneche Mba will remain crucial. However, ensuring accountability and adhering to codes of conduct will be essential in maintaining public trust and addressing concerns about misconduct.
