Nigeria’s Former Governor El-Rufai Slams Political Support Group for Fabricating Quotes
In a stern warning, former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has cautioned a political support group, ADC Vanguard, against falsifying statements and attributing them to him. The rebuke comes after the group circulated a now-deleted post quoting El-Rufai as criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s administration as “Nigeria’s most corrupt and dishonest government.”
El-Rufai took to his official X handle to address the issue, emphasizing that he has his own social media platforms to share his views and opinions. He advised ADC Vanguard to desist from fabricating quotes, stressing that such actions are dishonest and do not represent the values of their party. “I am going to disown the statements you created and attributed, not because I necessarily disagree with the message, but because I never made them,” El-Rufai stated.
ADC Vanguard has since apologized for the incident, acknowledging that misrepresenting El-Rufai was not their intention. The group expressed their respect for the former governor’s voice and platforms, pledging to rely solely on verified and authentic sources in the future. El-Rufai was commended for pointing out the issue in a clear and respectful manner.
The incident underscores the challenges of misinformation and the importance of authenticating quotes and sources, particularly in the realm of politics. El-Rufai’s swift response highlights his commitment to maintaining the integrity of his public statements and ensuring that his views are accurately represented.
By speaking out against the fabrication of quotes, El-Rufai aims to maintain transparency and honesty in public discourse. His actions serve as a reminder to political support groups and media outlets to prioritize authenticity and accuracy in their reporting. As the incident demonstrates, the spread of misinformation can have far-reaching consequences, and it is crucial to prioritize fact-checking and verification to ensure the integrity of public information.
