Nigerian Activist IG Wala Dumps APC for ADC Ahead of 2027 Election

2027: Activist joins ADC, urges Nigerians to unite against APC

Nigerian Human Rights Activist IG Wala Defects to Opposition Party ADC Ahead of 2027 Election

In a significant development, Comrade Ibrahim Garba Wala, a prominent human rights and anti-corruption activist, has announced his decision to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), an opposition coalition party in Nigeria. The move comes as the country prepares for the 2027 presidential election.

IG Wala, as he is popularly known, made his stance public in a statement, calling on Nigerians of all ages to rally behind the ADC and support its efforts to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he claims has brought hardship to the country. The activist emphasized the need for Nigerians to come together and build bridges of understanding, rather than engaging in infighting.

“For a long time, I have felt the sting of political frustration and disappointment,” IG Wala stated. “I have pointed fingers and placed blame, convinced that our nation’s problems were the fault of a few individuals. However, I’ve come to realize that our focus on blame has held us back. Blaming is easy, but it keeps us stuck in the past and blinds us to the real work that needs to be done.”

IG Wala’s defection to the ADC follows the emergence of David Mark, a former Nigerian Senate President, as the party’s interim national chairman. The ADC has been gaining momentum in recent months, with several high-profile individuals joining its ranks. These include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-governors of Kaduna State and Rotimi Amaechi of River State, as well as Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation Magazine, and Dino Melaye, a former senator from Kogi State.

However, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed the ADC’s chances in the 2027 election, citing the party’s performance in the August 16th bye-elections across the country. Despite this, IG Wala’s decision to join the ADC is seen as a significant boost to the party’s prospects.

As Nigeria approaches the 2027 presidential election, the political landscape is expected to become increasingly complex. IG Wala’s defection to the ADC is just one of several developments that will shape the country’s electoral landscape in the coming months. With the opposition party gaining momentum and the ruling party facing increasing criticism, the stage is set for a closely contested and potentially game-changing election.
