Abdullahi Adamu, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), announced that Ede Dafinone has emerged as the winner of Saturday’s National Assembly election in the Delta Central Senatorial District. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer for Delta Central, Prof. Ezekiel Agbalagba, made the announcement at the INEC Collation Centre in Ughelli. Dafinone received a total of 109,197 votes, defeating his closest rival, Ighoyota Amori of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 101,385 votes.
In addition to the top two candidates, the results revealed that Peter Omaruaye of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) came in third with 17,523 votes. The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) received 4,721 votes, while other political parties had the following vote counts: Social Democratic Party (SDP) – 3,568; Allied Peoples Movement (APM) – 1,195; National Rescue Movement (NRM) – 728; Action Democratic Party (ADP) – 1,341; Accord (A) – 513; African Democratic Congress (ADC) – 3,517; Young Progressives Party (YPP) – 967; Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) – 2,193; and All Progressives Congress (AA) – 336.
Furthermore, Joel Thomas, the APC candidate, was declared the senator-elect for the Delta South Senatorial District. Thomas, who previously served as the Chairman of the Delta State Board of Internal Revenue, was officially announced as the winner by the INEC Returning Officer for Delta South, Prof. Peretimina Anthony, at the Otobo Hall, Delta South Collation Centre in Oleh, the headquarters of Isoko South Local Government Area. Thomas secured 49,955 votes, defeating Hon. Michael Diden of the PDP, who received 47,656 votes, as well as Commodore Omatseye Nesiama (retd) of the NNPP. Prof. Peretimina Anthony confirmed Thomas as the duly elected senator-elect for the constituency.
