Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, has condemned the brutal killing of HRH Eze Igboke Ewa, the traditional ruler of the Umuezekoha community in the Ezza North Local Government Area. Eze Ewa, who also served as the chairman of the Ezza North Traditional Rulers Council, was murdered in his home on Monday night by unknown assailants suspected to be political thugs. In a briefing with journalists on Tuesday in his office, Governor Umahi described the incident as shocking and disturbing.

The governor characterized the late traditional ruler as an upright man who made significant contributions to the unity and development of the state. He emphasized that no life should be lost due to political conflicts. To address this heinous act, Umahi reiterated his directive to security agencies in the state to urgently identify and apprehend the perpetrators. He cautioned the youth against being manipulated into violence, stating, “Whatever one sows, he will reap.”

Governor Umahi expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the newly posted Commissioner of Police, criticizing him for not taking decisive action. He remarked, “He is just sitting on the fence, but I have warned him that he will be responsible if anything happens.” The governor further lamented that security agencies often remain passive during crises, only to claim they are taking action once the situation escalates. He urged them to proactively address conflicts, not just in Ebonyi but throughout Nigeria.
