Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, is poised to be declared the winner of the 2023 presidential election. He secured 8,805,420 votes in the election held on February 25th. According to the vote tally announced by electoral officials from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory at the national collation center in Abuja, Tinubu leads his closest rival, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, by more than 1.8 million votes. Atiku garnered 6,984,290 votes, while Peter Obi, the Labour Party candidate, came in third with 6,093,962 votes. Each of the three candidates won in 12 states.
In the South-West region, Tinubu faced challenges, losing Lagos State, which is considered his stronghold, to the Labour Party candidate, and Osun State to his PDP counterpart. However, the 70-year-old candidate achieved victories in Oyo State with 449,884 votes, Ondo with 369,924 votes, Ekiti with 201,494 votes, and Ogun with 341,554 votes. Additionally, Tinubu secured wins in several northern states, including Kwara with 263,572 votes, Jigawa with 421,390 votes, Zamfara with 298,396 votes, Borno with 252,282 votes, Benue with 310,468 votes, Kogi with 240,751 votes, and Niger with 375,183 votes. He also won in Rivers State, where he received 231,591 votes.
Meanwhile, Atiku Abubakar performed strongly in the North, winning significant votes in states such as Kaduna with 554,360 votes, Sokoto with 288,679 votes, Adamawa with 417,611 votes, and Osun with 354,366 votes. His victories extended to Gombe with 319,123 votes, Yobe with 198,567 votes, Katsina with 489,045 votes, Taraba with 189,017 votes, Bayelsa with 68,818 votes, and Akwa Ibom with 214,012 votes, among others. In contrast, Peter Obi achieved victories in states like Cross River with 179,917 votes, Nasarawa with 191,361 votes, Enugu with 428,640 votes, and Lagos with 582,664 votes. He also won in Imo with 352,904 votes, Delta with 341,866 votes, Abuja with 281,717 votes, Edo with 331,163 votes, Ebonyi with 259,738 votes, Anambra with 584,621 votes, Abia with 327,095 votes, and Plateau with 466,272 votes, among others.
