On Monday, gunmen attacked the Nkporo Divisional Police Headquarters in the Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, stealing weapons from the station. The assailants arrived in three Toyota Sienna vehicles, assaulted the officers on duty, and forced their way into the divisional armory. During the invasion they took one AK‑47 rifle with 30 rounds of live ammunition, two riot guns and an undetermined quantity of additional ammunition. The policemen who were injured were promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Geoffrey Ogbonna, the state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident in a press statement on Tuesday. He said the gunmen fired indiscriminately during the assault, overpowered the officers, and then accessed the station to steal the weapons. Ogbonna announced that a manhunt has been launched to apprehend those responsible for the attack.
