Kaduna CAN assures Gov. Sani of support, prayers — Daily Nigerian

The Kaduna State Government has reinstated a five‑day school week in all public schools to improve learning outcomes and strengthen the education system. Commissioner for Education Professor Abubakar Sani‑Sambo announced the decision while receiving members of the Kaduna Government College Old Boys Association at his office. He explained that the move is essential for boosting academic performance and overall education quality, and emphasized that teacher welfare remains a top priority. Accordingly, the government plans to review teachers’ salaries to enhance productivity and provide a more conducive work environment for educators.

During the meeting, the temporary occupation of Kaduna Government College by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) was also addressed. Professor Sani‑Sambo noted that this arrangement was made during a period of heightened security challenges, but with the improved security situation, both organizations will be required to vacate the premises and relocate to their permanent sites. This will allow the school to function optimally and without disruptions.

Muhammad Yusuf Sa’in Lere, National President of the Kaduna Government College Old Boys Association, had previously appealed to Governor Uba Sani, citing that the NYSC and Civil Defence were occupying about 70 percent of the school’s premises and disrupting academic activities. The government’s decision to have these organizations relocate is expected to alleviate those challenges and ensure a conducive learning environment for students.

The reintroduction of the five‑day school week and the focus on teacher welfare represent significant steps toward improving Kaduna State’s education sector. As these initiatives take effect, students, teachers, and the broader community are anticipated to benefit from a higher quality of education and better learning outcomes, contributing to a brighter future for the state’s citizens.
