Senator Ahmed Wadada, who represents the Nasarawa West Senatorial Zone, has formally defected from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and rejoined the All Progressive Congress (APC). This move returns him to the party he originally belonged to before switching to the SDP to contest and win the 2023 Nasarawa West Senate elections.

In a letter dated Tuesday and addressed to the APC chairman of Tudun Kofar Ward in Keffi, Wadada explained that careful consideration and a desire to contribute to the APC’s growth, development, and success motivated his decision. The letter, titled “Notification of my return to the All Progressive Congress,” was signed by the senator in the Keffi local government area of Nasarawa State.

Wadada’s return to the APC is significant given his recent electoral victory under the SDP banner. It may be viewed as a strategic move that could influence the political landscape of Nasarawa State and bolster the APC’s national standing. The APC, one of Nigeria’s major political parties, continues to experience shifts in membership as politicians defect to or from the party, reflecting broader trends of fluid alliances in Nigerian politics.

As a senator, Wadada’s re‑entry into the APC could affect his legislative priorities and alignments within the Senate. His experience in both the APC and SDP may enrich the party’s policy discussions and decisions. The development is expected to attract interest from political observers, given its potential implications for the APC’s strength and the dynamics of Nasarawa State politics. Further developments are likely as the party and its members navigate the consequences of his defection.
