NNPP Executives Meet Over INEC Delay and 2027 Election Plans

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) held an emergency meeting in Lagos on Thursday, attended by the party’s national executives from across the country. The closed-door meeting, which took place at the NAGAFF Headquarters in Apapa, was chaired by the party’s Chairman, Board of Trustees, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, along with the National Chairman, Dr. Agbo Major, and the Secretary General, Dr. Oginni Olaposi.

The meeting, which lasted from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, focused on urgent issues affecting the party nationwide, including the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) delay in uploading the new national executives of the party. This delay has hindered the party’s ability to participate actively in elections nationwide. According to Dr. Aniebonam, the party has written to INEC on multiple occasions, demanding that elections be stopped until the NNPP issue is resolved to avoid potential litigations that may impact elections in Nigeria.

Dr. Aniebonam expressed concern that INEC’s delay constitutes a constitutional abuse of the party’s rights as Nigerians to participate in elections. Despite court directives, INEC has yet to reflect the true and correct logo of the NNPP and recognize the party’s new leadership. The party is insisting that INEC must refrain from all activities nationwide, including stopping all elections, until the issue is resolved.

Other topics discussed during the meeting included the usurping of the NNPP name by expelled members and approaches by presidential aspirants wishing to use the party’s platform for the 2027 election. Dr. Aniebonam confirmed that the NNPP will present its own candidate in the 2027 election and is open to collaboration with like-minded parties willing to support it. However, the party will not give out its ticket to a lone aspirant, and all aspirants will be required to undergo the party’s mandatory primaries.

The NNPP also discussed a nationwide membership drive, which is set to begin soon. This effort aims to strengthen the party’s presence across the country and prepare it for upcoming elections. With the 2027 election on the horizon, the party is taking steps to resolve its internal issues and position itself for success. The outcome of the meeting and the party’s subsequent actions will be closely watched as the electoral landscape in Nigeria continues to evolve.
