The Defence Headquarters announced that the Armed Forces recorded significant successes against terrorists and kidnappers across Nigeria in August. Director of Defence Media Operations Maj‑Gen. Markus Kangye reported that several terrorists were killed, 85 suspects were arrested, and 66 kidnap victims were rescued during the month.
In the North East, Operation Hadin Kai eliminated scores of Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters, arrested 15 suspects—including collaborators, a gunrunner, and a drug peddler—and rescued eight kidnapped victims. In the North West, troops neutralised terrorists in Zamfara, Sokoto, Kaduna, Kebbi and Katsina states, arresting 23 suspects and rescuing 24 kidnapped victims.
Troops of Operation Enduring Peace in the North Central region also achieved notable results, killing terrorists, arresting seven criminals and rescuing two kidnap victims. A suspect was caught with N3 million in ransom cash in Bassa LGA. Meanwhile, Operation Whirl Stroke in Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba, Kogi and the FCT arrested nine extremists and rescued 13 hostages.
Joint operations across all theatres led to the recovery of large quantities of arms, ammunition, vehicles, motorcycles and explosives. Maj‑Gen. Kangye said the troops have continued to intensify joint operations aimed at neutralising threats to national security, restoring stability and safeguarding the lives and property of citizens. The successes recorded in August demonstrate the Armed Forces’ commitment to combating insecurity in Nigeria, reducing terrorist and kidnapper activity and providing relief to affected communities. As the military maintains its intensified operations, the security situation is expected to improve further, ensuring the safety and well‑being of citizens. The Defence Headquarters will continue to provide updates on the progress of these operations, highlighting both achievements and challenges faced by the troops.
