The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that voter registration for the Anambra governorship election has been completed in all 326 wards of the state. The registration exercise, conducted from 8 to 20 July 2025, initially recorded 168,187 new registrations. After reviewing the entries through the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS), INEC identified and removed 27,817 invalid records—such as duplicate or multiple registrations—leaving 140,370 valid new registrants. An additional 5,983 valid transfer applications were processed, bringing the total number of new voters to 146,353.
Before this exercise, Anambra State had 2,656,437 registered voters. With the addition of the new voters, the state’s electorate now totals 2,802,790. The distribution of the new voters by local government area shows that Idemili North leads with 246,318 registered voters, followed by Awka South with 216,611 and Ogbaru with 188,016.
INEC has assured that all Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will be ready for collection before the election. In compliance with the Electoral Act 2022, the commission has also posted the list of new registrants for each ward, allowing for claims and objections. This update marks a significant step in the preparations for the Anambra governorship election, underscoring the electoral body’s commitment to the integrity and accuracy of the voter registration process. Stakeholders and observers will be closely monitoring INEC’s efforts as the election approaches.
