The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has provided an update on the final registration of voters for the Anambra governorship election. In a statement released after its weekly meeting on Thursday, the Commission announced that voter registration has been completed in all 326 wards across the state. The registration process, which took place from July 8 to 20, 2025, resulted in 168,187 new registrations.

However, after reviewing the registrations through the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS), INEC detected 27,817 invalid records, including double or multiple registrations. These records have been removed, bringing the total number of new registrants to 140,370. Additionally, 5,983 valid applications for transfer into the state have been processed, making a total of 146,353 new voters.

Prior to the recent voter registration exercise, Anambra State had 2,656,437 registered voters. With the new registrations, the total number of voters in the state now stands at 2,802,790. The distribution of new voters by local government area shows that Idemili North has the highest number of voters, with 246,318 registered voters, followed by Awka South with 216,611 and Ogbaru with 188,016.

INEC has assured that all Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will be ready for collection before the election. The Commission has also displayed the list of new registrants in all wards for claims and objections, as stipulated in the Electoral Act 2022.
