El-Rufai lists 3 reasons they worked against Jonathan in 2015

Former Kaduna State gubernatorial candidate Jonathan Asake has stressed that electing knowledgeable leaders is essential for the success of Nigeria’s democracy. He argues that such leadership would foster good governance, inclusiveness, and ultimately bring peace, unity, and development to both the state and the nation.

Asake made these remarks in response to former Governor Nasir El‑Rufai’s interview on Channels Television, where El‑Rufai’s statements, according to Asake, threaten the unity and development of Kaduna State. He expressed concern that El‑Rufai’s comments revealed a lack of understanding of the state, especially Southern Kaduna. Asake pointed out that during El‑Rufai’s tenure the state suffered significant insecurity, displacement and violence. He alleged that victims who resisted attacks were often arrested, while curfews imposed on affected communities allowed perpetrators to act with impunity.

Having previously served as President of the Southern Kaduna People’s Union, Asake criticized El‑Rufai for failing to provide adequate support to victims of violence during his administration. He also took issue with El‑Rufai’s remarks about the Christian population in the state, insisting that such statements should be grounded in facts rather than speculation.

Asake’s comments come at a time when Nigeria continues to grapple with governance, security and social‑cohesion challenges. The country’s democratic system has faced electoral violence, corruption and ethnic tensions in recent years. In this context, Asake’s remarks underscore the need for effective, responsible leadership and greater accountability and transparency from elected officials. His emphasis on informed leadership highlights its importance for promoting peace, unity and development as Nigeria navigates its complex political and social landscape.
