Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, inaugurated a 1,200‑seat auditorium at the Albalti Army Barracks in Surulere, Lagos State. Named Bola Tinubu Hall, the facility is one of several projects that Gbajabiamila has facilitated at the barracks. During the ceremony, he expressed deep admiration for the military, describing soldiers as “admirable professionals.” He disclosed that, as a young man, he had attempted to join the armed forces but was rejected because of his weight and size, leading him to pursue a career in law instead. Despite never serving, Gbajabiamila said he has always respected soldiers and praised their sacrifices for the nation, commending the military’s role in preserving unity and protecting democracy.
Gbajabiamila emphasized that the federal government remains committed to the welfare of soldiers, and he presented the auditorium and other barracks projects as tangible evidence of the government’s appreciation for the military’s pivotal role in nation‑building. The new hall is expected to provide a conducive environment for training sessions, social functions, and other activities for military personnel.
Muiz Dosunmu, Vice Chairman of Surulere Local Government, praised the cooperation between the council and the Albalti Barracks community, noting that it has enabled several notable projects within the barracks. He described Surulere as a leading local government in Nigeria, excelling in development, education, sports, and health infrastructure.
Lt‑Col. Michael Toriola, Director of the Nigeria Army Corps, thanked Gbajabiamila for the auditorium and other initiatives, calling him a role model and philanthropist. The event was attended by several APC leaders, including Desmond Elliot, member representing Surulere Constituency I in the House of Assembly, as well as officers and men of the Nigerian Army.
The inauguration of Bola Tinubu Hall marks a significant development in the country’s efforts to support its military personnel. The project underscores the importance of creating an environment that fosters excellence and service, and the state‑of‑the‑art facility will now enhance training and social activities for those stationed at the Albalti Army Barracks.
