Boko Haram kills 63 in Borno State attack

A recent attack in Darajamal, Bama Local Government Area, has resulted in the deaths of 63 people, according to Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum. The governor confirmed the incident during a condolence visit to the affected community on Saturday. The victims include five soldiers and approximately 58 civilians.

The community had recently returned to their homes after years of displacement. Governor Zulum expressed his condolences to the people of Darajamal, stating that the attack occurred on Friday night. He noted that the community was settling back into normal life before the Boko Haram attack.

The governor confirmed that 63 people lost their lives in the attack, with the majority being civilians. He emphasized the need for additional security measures to protect vulnerable communities. Governor Zulum appealed for the immediate deployment of newly trained Forest Guards to support the military in safeguarding these areas.

The numerical strength of the military is currently insufficient to cover all vulnerable locations, according to the governor. He suggested that deploying the trained Forest Guards to these areas could provide the necessary protection for communities and forests. Two sets of Forest Guards have already been trained, and their deployment is seen as a potential solution to enhancing security in the region.

The attack on Darajamal is a significant incident in the ongoing conflict in the region. The use of Forest Guards to complement the military’s efforts could be an important step in improving security and protecting communities. As the situation continues to unfold, the deployment of these guards may play a crucial role in preventing future attacks and promoting stability in the area.
