Kaduna Governor Credits Merit-Based Governance for Historic APC Win

Rivers APC Defends Strategy Amid Calls for Wike to Join

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has attributed the All Progressives Congress (APC) historic victory in the Chikun Federal Constituency to his administration’s inclusive and merit-based approach to governance. In an interview with TVC Television, Governor Sani noted that the constituency, traditionally a stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had never previously voted for the APC since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999.

The governor highlighted the significance of the win, stating that the APC secured 70% of the total votes in the bye-election, with the party’s candidate receiving 34,580 votes, while the PDP candidate trailed with 11,491 votes. This outcome marks a substantial shift in the constituency’s voting pattern, as the Labour Party had won the seat just two years prior, although the member’s subsequent passing prompted the bye-election.

Governor Sani emphasized that his administration’s governance approach, which prioritizes fairness, justice, and equity, has been instrumental in bringing about this change. He expressed concern over the tendency for political debates to focus on religious or ethnic demographics rather than leadership quality, stressing that his administration does not discriminate based on religion, party affiliation, or ethnicity.

Since assuming office, Governor Sani has made it a priority to ensure that his administration is guided by principles of inclusivity and meritocracy. The APC’s victory in the Chikun Federal Constituency is seen as a testament to the effectiveness of this approach, as it has helped to build trust and confidence among the electorate. The outcome of this bye-election may have implications for future elections in the state, as it suggests that the APC is gaining ground in traditional PDP strongholds.
