Dele Momodu, a prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, has claimed that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has been severely weakened by agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC). In an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, the veteran journalist explained that he resigned from the PDP because the party had been hijacked by APC operatives.
Momodu described the ADC as a coalition of various political parties and said his departure from the PDP was driven by the party’s inability to move forward. He asserted that APC agents have taken over the PDP, remaining inside the party while advancing the interests of the ruling party. According to Momodu, he is closely monitoring events within the PDP and fears that the party may not recover from this infiltration, which prompted his decision to leave.
Emphasizing the importance of integrity, Momodu said he could not, in good conscience, stay in the PDP while working with a different political coalition. His comments come as the PDP faces internal challenges and struggles to regain its footing, with some observers likening its condition to an intensive care unit and suggesting that certain individuals are using the party for personal gain.
Momodu’s statements highlight the complexities of Nigerian politics, where alliances and rivalries shift rapidly. His decision to join the ADC coalition reflects ongoing realignments within the country’s political parties. The ADC, with its diverse membership, aims to provide an alternative platform for politicians and citizens alike. As Nigeria’s political landscape prepares for significant changes, the actions of key figures like Momodu are likely to have a lasting impact on the nation’s democratic process.
