Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, has expressed the lawmakers’ commitment to supporting Speaker Abbas Tajudeen’s mandate. According to Agbese, the Speaker’s inclusive and respectful leadership style has fostered a sense of unity among the 359 legislators, transcending party lines.
Agbese praised Speaker Tajudeen as a leader who has ensured that all members are carried along in parliamentary decisions and legislative activities. He noted that the Speaker’s approach has minimized unnecessary conflicts and strengthened cooperation, creating a peaceful environment in the Green Chamber. This, Agbese explained, is due to the Speaker’s willingness to engage with and listen to all members, regardless of their status or party affiliation.
The lawmaker emphasized that the Speaker’s commitment to transparency, sincerity, and collective good has earned him the trust and support of the House. He stated that the lawmakers have witnessed the negative impact of divisions and exclusion in previous assemblies, but the current leadership has united the House behind the Speaker.
Under Speaker Tajudeen’s leadership, the House has seen significant progress, particularly in the quality of debates, motions, and bills. Agbese attributed this to the stability and sense of unity provided by the Speaker, which is essential for entrenching Nigeria’s democratic values. He noted that the Speaker’s approach has given every member a voice, resulting in robust debates and diverse perspectives.
The Deputy Spokesperson reiterated that the lawmakers will continue to defend the Speaker’s mandate, not just because of his leadership, but also because it is essential for the institution and the Nigerian people. With the House united behind the Speaker, Agbese expressed confidence that the legislature will continue to make progress, strengthening Nigeria’s democratic foundations. The Speaker’s commitment to inclusive leadership has set a positive tone for the 10th National Assembly, and the lawmakers are determined to support him in his efforts to promote the collective good of the House and the nation.
