The Anambra State Civic and Social Reformation Office (ANCISRO) attributes the state’s surge in voter registrations to its sustained sensitisation efforts. Recent figures from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) show that Anambra recorded the highest number of new voter registrations in Nigeria, with 168,187 new voters added in just two weeks— the highest tally for any comparable period since 2017. Women comprised 58 % of these new registrants, and young people aged 18‑34 accounted for more than half, indicating a notable rise in civic engagement.
In contrast, other South‑East states displayed relatively low participation, especially during the online pre‑registration phase. Of the 64,696 registrations recorded across the entire zone, Anambra contributed 62,698, while states such as Abia, Enugu, Imo and Ebonyi reported significantly lower figures.
ANCISRO Managing Director Chuka Nnabuife credited the success to the agency’s initiatives, which include civic‑education and mobilisation programmes such as “My Vote, My Duty,” town‑hall meetings, school outreach, youth forums and parish sensitisation. These activities engaged diverse groups—traders, students, market women and other active community members—who dominated the registration numbers.
The record registration in Anambra underscores the importance of civic education and mobilisation in boosting democratic participation. As the state prepares for the November 8, 2025 governorship election, ANCISRO remains committed to deepening democratic involvement, strengthening public trust and ensuring that every eligible citizen recognises the need to register, collect a PVC and vote. The high voter‑registration figures represent a significant development in the lead‑up to the 2025 election and highlight the crucial role of civic engagement in the democratic process. With the ongoing INEC online voter‑registration exercise, ANCISRO urges citizens to seize the opportunity to register and exercise their right to vote, reinforcing the agency’s aim to empower every eligible voter to make their voice heard.
