DHQ moves to establish Armed Forces Museum — Daily Nigerian

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Empower 54 Africa Initiative to establish a world-class Armed Forces Museum in Abuja. According to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, the project aims to preserve the history of the Nigerian military and honor the sacrifices of fallen heroes. Musa emphasized the importance of museums as custodians of national memory, noting that the Armed Forces Museum will be designed to meet international standards and serve as a pride to service members and their families.

The museum is expected to be launched formally in the first quarter of 2026, following a seven-phase strategic plan. Rear Admiral Olusanya Bankole, Chief of Defence Civil-Military Relations, explained that Empower 54 was chosen as a strategic partner after due diligence. The project will cover 10 hectares of land, creating jobs for veterans and civilians while generating revenue through tourism, education, and partnerships.

The vision for the museum was inspired by Princess Modupe Ozolua’s experiences in the North East during the peak of insurgency in 2014. Ozolua, President of Empower 54, witnessed firsthand the sacrifices of soldiers and the devastation of communities in the region. She stressed the importance of preserving the stories of gallant troops and the impact of their service, which will be showcased in the museum. The Armed Forces Museum will feature digital and interactive platforms, allowing families to connect with the memories of loved ones who paid the supreme price.

The establishment of the museum is a significant step in preserving Nigeria’s military history and honoring the sacrifices of its fallen heroes. With its world-class design and interactive features, the museum is expected to attract tourists and educate future generations about the country’s military heritage. The project’s focus on job creation and revenue generation will also contribute to the local economy. As the project moves forward, the Defence Headquarters and Empower 54 Africa Initiative will work together to bring the vision of the Armed Forces Museum to life, ensuring that the sacrifices of Nigeria’s military personnel are never forgotten.
