President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria met French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace in Paris on Wednesday. The encounter occurred during Tinubu’s working vacation in Europe, part of his 2025 annual leave. He left Abuja on 4 September to begin the trip, which Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga says will last ten working days.
During the vacation, Tinubu is scheduled to spend time in both France and the United Kingdom before returning to Nigeria. The itinerary offers him a chance to engage in diplomatic discussions and strengthen relationships with European leaders. His meeting with Macron underscores the importance of bilateral relations between Nigeria and France, two significant nations in their respective regions. The talks are expected to cover trade, security and cooperation on global issues.
The working vacation also allows Tinubu to step back from his domestic duties and focus on international diplomacy. As a key player in African politics and the economy, his interactions with European leaders could have notable implications for Nigeria’s foreign policy and economic development.
While in the United Kingdom, Tinubu is expected to meet additional leaders and dignitaries, further solidifying Nigeria’s ties with its European partners. The outcomes of these meetings will be closely watched for their potential impact on Nigeria’s global standing. Upon his return, Tinubu is likely to resume his duties, possibly bringing new insights and agreements that could shape Nigeria’s future engagements with Europe.
