The Nigerian Army is introducing new uniforms for its officers and men, announced by Chief of Army Staff Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede during a visit to the Godwin Ally Barracks in Ogoja, Cross River State. The change forms part of the military’s “Soldiers First” initiative, which aims to standardize operational readiness and boost morale.
According to a statement from Acting Director of Army Public Relations Lt. Col. Appolonia Anele, the new uniforms and essential kits will be distributed to all personnel. In addition, schools within Army barracks across the country are slated for renovation to provide quality education for soldiers’ children. The COAS also directed the refurbishment of dilapidated accommodations at Godwin Ally Barracks, underscoring his commitment to personnel welfare.
Recent improvements in troop welfare were highlighted, including an increase in the Ration Cash Allowance. This increase has enabled commanders to provide better feeding for soldiers, enhancing their overall well‑being. Oluyede urged troops to uphold professionalism and discipline, emphasizing the need for synergy with other security agencies and host communities to achieve lasting peace and stability.
The visit to Godwin Ally Barracks formed part of the COAS’s assessment tour of formations and units under the 82 Division Area of Responsibility. During the tour, Oluyede interacted with troops and expressed appreciation for their efforts despite challenging operational demands. The introduction of new uniforms and the renovation of facilities demonstrate the Nigerian Army’s commitment to improving the lives of its personnel and their families.
