The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Committee in Oyo State has refuted claims of a standing agreement with Governor Seyi Makinde, which some have mistakenly believed. Nike Ajagbe, a member of the committee, addressed this issue during a conversation with journalists in Ibadan on Wednesday. She emphasized that the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, is a dedicated party member who takes the success of the APC seriously, particularly in the South-West, which he considers his stronghold.
Ajagbe clarified that the campaign committee’s agenda includes visiting all opposition governors when they are in their states for campaign activities. She urged the public not to interpret these visits as endorsements or agreements, but rather as an opportunity to host a widely accepted presidential candidate. “It was in the programme of the campaign committee to visit all the opposition governors whenever they are in their respective states for campaign, so people should not see it as an agreement or that they struck a deal. There is no standing agreement whatsoever between them,” she stated.
Citing instances where Tinubu visited government houses in Rivers State and other locations before continuing to campaign, Ajagbe noted that she was present during the president-elect’s visit to Makinde. She reiterated that no agreement existed between the campaign team and the governor. “People are surprised to read that Governor Makinde was claiming he had an agreement with the president-elect when he was unable to disclose his support for the president-elect openly, especially when he remarked that the people of the state should vote for the unifier of the country during the governorship debate on Splash FM,” Ajagbe stressed.
