The African Democratic Congress’s 2023 presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, has criticised the David Mark‑led ADC coalition, accusing its members of contributing to Nigeria’s decline. Speaking on Channels Television’s *Politics Today* programme, Kachikwu called for a closer look at the backgrounds of those involved in the coalition, specifically naming Bolaji Abdullahi and his representatives.
Kachikwu argued that the coalition’s members have failed to fulfil their responsibilities, which he says has led to the country’s current state. He expressed doubt about their willingness to “rescue” Nigeria, using the analogy that one cannot set a house on fire and then claim to be the firefighter tasked with extinguishing the flames. He questioned their leadership qualities, noting that if they were effective, Nigerians would not be voicing discontent.
His remarks come as Nigeria continues to grapple with economic and political instability. The ADC coalition, headed by David Mark, has been seeking to address these issues and present an alternative to the incumbent leadership. However, Kachikwu’s comments suggest that the coalition’s members may lack the credibility or expertise needed for meaningful change.
Critics have long accused the ADC coalition of being out of touch with the needs and concerns of ordinary Nigerians. As the country navigates its complex political landscape, debate over the coalition’s role and effectiveness is likely to persist. With the 2023 general elections now behind us, attention has turned to the future of Nigeria’s leadership and the ability of its politicians to tackle the nation’s pressing challenges. Kachikwu’s statements have added to the ongoing discussion, underscoring the need for accountable and effective leadership in Nigeria.
