APC Accused of Sponsoring Attack on El-Rufai

Kaduna LG polls: Vote SDP candidates - El-Rufai speaks amid coalition involvement

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating a recent attack on former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai. According to Professor James Okoroma, the Imo State chairman of the ADC, the alleged APC-sponsored violence against opposition figures poses a threat to Nigeria’s democratic system.

In an interview with Arise News, Okoroma stated that the hoodlums who disrupted an event attended by El-Rufai were paid and transported in hired buses. He claimed that the ADC’s independent investigation revealed the APC’s involvement in the incident, citing the party’s concern over the growing influence of the ADC. Okoroma noted that the attackers were motivated by financial gain, with evidence of hired buses and paid-for placards.

The ADC chieftain described the incident as part of a worrying trend of political violence in Nigeria. He pointed out that similar attacks have occurred in other states, emphasizing the potential destabilizing effect of targeting El-Rufai, now an influential member of the ADC coalition. Okoroma urged the APC-led government to focus on addressing the country’s economic challenges, poverty, and infrastructure issues rather than allegedly attacking opponents.

The incident has raised concerns about the state of political tolerance and violence in Nigeria. As the country navigates its democratic process, the ADC’s allegations against the APC have highlighted the need for political parties to promote peaceful coexistence and respect for opposition voices. The Nigerian government has been called upon to ensure the safety and security of all citizens, regardless of their political affiliations, and to address the root causes of political violence. By doing so, the government can help maintain stability and promote a healthy democratic environment.
