Utah governor promises death penalty for Charlie Kirk’s killer — RT World News

Utah Governor Spencer Cox announced that the state will seek the death penalty for the gunman responsible for the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The suspect remains at large more than 30 hours after the shooting, and a massive federal manhunt is under way. Authorities have admitted they are uncertain whether the suspect has left the state. At a press conference, Governor Cox confirmed that state officials will pursue the death penalty once the suspect is apprehended, saying, “We’ve been working with our attorneys to prepare the necessary affidavits, so we can pursue the death penalty in this case.” He had previously warned that the perpetrator would be found, tried and held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

The FBI has offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of the assassin. Director Kash Patel visited the scene of the shooting, which occurred near a canopy tent where Kirk was gunned down during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University. The agency released images of a potential suspect described as a man wearing sunglasses, a black hat and a long‑sleeve black shirt featuring an American flag.

Charlie Kirk, 31, was struck by a single rifle shot while addressing thousands of students on Wednesday. He was rushed to the hospital but later died of his wounds. Officials have described the killing as a targeted political assassination. President Donald Trump vowed to pursue not only Kirk’s killer but also the networks that fuel political violence, stating that his administration would track down those responsible for perpetrating and funding such attacks.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to apprehend the suspect and bring him to justice. The case has heightened attention on political violence and the need for accountability. Officials continue to urge anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation.
