PDP Warned to Unite or Lose 2027 Election

The Peoples Democratic Party’s National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, has cautioned the party to resolve its internal disputes and unite, warning that failure to do so could jeopardize its chances in the 2027 presidential election. Ajibade issued this warning at the PDP National Restoration Movement National Summit in Abuja, where party leaders emphasized the need for reconciliation and unity among members.

According to Ajibade, a united party is essential for presenting a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress. He noted that unresolved disputes within the party could resurface before the 2027 election, further weakening the PDP’s position. Ajibade highlighted the party’s past achievements, including stabilizing democracy, attracting foreign investment, and implementing reforms in telecommunications, banking, and pensions during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s tenure.

Ajibade stressed that unity is crucial for the party’s success, stating that “a house divided against itself cannot stand” and “a divided PDP cannot win elections.” He emphasized the need for sacrifice, prioritizing the country’s interests over personal ambitions. Ajibade acknowledged that ambition is not inherently problematic but becomes destructive when it threatens the party’s core values and existence.

The warning comes as the PDP seeks to regain power in the 2027 presidential election. With the party’s internal crisis ongoing, Ajibade’s caution serves as a reminder of the importance of unity and reconciliation in achieving electoral success. The PDP’s ability to resolve its internal disputes and present a united front will be crucial in determining its chances in the upcoming election. As the party moves forward, it remains to be seen whether its leaders will heed Ajibade’s warning and work towards unity, or if internal divisions will continue to hinder the PDP’s progress.
