Join APC, leave PDP, ADC, LP alone - Tonye Cole tells Wike

A former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Tonye Cole, has urged Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike to formally join the ruling party. Speaking on Channels Television’s *Politics Today*, Cole called on Wike to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and become an APC member, arguing that this would end ongoing speculation about his political stance.

Wike has been at the centre of a prolonged leadership crisis within the PDP since the 2023 general election. Although he publicly identifies with the PDP, he has openly collaborated with the ruling APC, creating confusion and division among party members. Cole contends that Wike’s move to the APC would strengthen democracy by allowing other parties to develop their structures without interference. Once Wike’s position is clarified, Cole believes the political landscape would become more defined, enabling parties to build their own strengths and compete on a level playing field.

According to Cole, Wike’s declaration would allow parties such as the PDP, ADC, Labour Party and YPP to establish themselves and participate fully in party politics. The call for Wike to join the APC comes amid persistent speculation about his allegiance. As a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, Wike’s decision is expected to have significant implications for the country’s political environment. By joining the APC, he could openly support the ruling party and potentially play a key role in shaping its policies and direction.

The situation underscores the complex nature of Nigerian politics, where alliances and affiliations can shift rapidly. The APC and PDP are two of the nation’s major parties, and Wike’s choice could have far‑reaching consequences for both. As the political landscape continues to evolve, observers will watch closely to see how Wike’s decision impacts the balance of power in Nigeria.
