The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant seizures and arrests in its ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking and abuse in Nigeria. According to a statement by the Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the agency intercepted 100,000 pills of tramadol, with a strength of 200mg/225mg, in Kano. A suspect was also arrested in connection with the drugs at Gadar Tamburawa, along the Zaria-Kano road.
In addition to the tramadol seizure, NDLEA operatives recovered 196 liters of Akuskura, a new psychoactive substance, from another suspect in the Na’ibawa area of Kano. Further, the agency seized 34.1kg of skunk, 493 tubes of rubber solution, and 25 liters of ‘suck and die’, another psychoactive substance, from an 18-year-old in the Wailari area of Kumbotso Local Government Area, Kano.
In Anambra State, a couple was arrested during a raid operation at Obosi, where 13.9kg of methamphetamine and 5.3kg of skunk were recovered. Various quantities of meth, tramadol, swinol, heroin, and skunk were also seized from another suspect in the state. In Yobe, a suspect was arrested after 36 blocks of cannabis sativa, weighing 22.1kg, were recovered from his residence at Gadan Talakawa area of Potiskum.
Moreover, three trans-border drug traffickers were nabbed with 394kg of skunk at Imeko area of Ogun State, during a joint operation by NDLEA operatives with the police and local vigilante. The agency also destroyed 16,966.633 kg of skunk on a cannabis plantation in Edo State and recovered 112 bags of processed cannabis weighing 1,176kg.
The NDLEA’s efforts to combat drug abuse extend beyond seizures and arrests. The agency has continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization activities, targeting schools, worship centers, workplaces, and communities across the country. These initiatives aim to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and promote a drug-free society. As the agency continues its crackdown on drug trafficking and abuse, its efforts are expected to have a significant impact on public health and safety in Nigeria.
