The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has successfully completed ward congresses in all 21 local government areas of Kebbi State, electing new executives and delegates across numerous wards. This achievement marks a significant milestone as the party seeks to reposition itself ahead of upcoming elections.
In Gwangwadija Ward of the Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area, the Ward Congress Election Committee, chaired by Bello Goronyo—PDP Chairman in Sokoto State—praised the peaceful conduct of the exercise. Goronyo described the turnout as “encouraging,” viewing it as evidence of the party’s enduring acceptance by the people. He acknowledged the challenges faced but affirmed that the PDP remains a formidable opposition force in Nigeria. The national delegation also met with security agencies and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to thank them for ensuring a hitch‑free process, especially in areas prone to insecurity.
Sani Dododo, Chairman of the PDP Ward Congress in Kebbi State and the party’s publicity secretary, highlighted the unity and strength demonstrated by the impressive turnout, interpreting it as a sign of members’ determination and the party’s continued vigor. In Sauwa Ward of the Argungu Local Government Area, over 500 participants attended the congress, further underscoring the PDP’s popularity. Dododo reiterated that “PDP is one, and PDP is still PDP,” emphasizing the party’s cohesion.
The successful ward congresses are expected to strengthen the PDP’s position in Kebbi State and improve its prospects in future elections. The peaceful organization of internal elections showcases the party’s capacity to manage its affairs effectively. As Nigeria’s political landscape evolves, the PDP’s efforts to revitalize its structures and rebuild its base are crucial to its quest to regain power. With the ward congresses concluded, the party now turns its focus to the next phases of rebuilding, including the upcoming local government and state congresses.
