The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has denied an online report claiming that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed the party’s list of state chairmen across Nigeria. Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, called the story “fake news” and said it was intended to create confusion within the party.
In a statement released on Sunday, Abdullahi clarified that INEC has neither officially nor unofficially confirmed any list of ADC state chairmen. He explained that the selection and approval of state leaders is an internal party matter, not a responsibility of the electoral commission. The party’s constitution vests the power to constitute and ratify state leadership solely within the ADC’s prerogative, with INEC recognizing only those submissions that are made through proper channels after due process.
Abdullahi urged party members and the public to disregard the purported list and await official communication from the ADC’s national leadership. He emphasized the importance of relying on verified sources for updates on party leadership and assured supporters that the ADC remains committed to upholding discipline, structure, and internal democracy.
The denial comes as the party seeks to maintain order and stability within its ranks. With Nigeria’s electoral landscape continually evolving, the ADC’s stance serves as a reminder of the need to verify information through official channels. As the party moves forward, it is likely to continue emphasizing vigilance and adherence to official communication among its members and stakeholders. In the broader context of Nigeria’s political environment, the ADC’s response underscores the significance of internal party democracy and the role of electoral commissions in recognizing legitimate party leadership, a commitment to transparency and accountability that will be closely watched by supporters and the wider public.
